About Yearleaf

Yearleaf makes free printable calendars: a new leaf for every year.

How dates and holidays are worked out

Every calendar is generated from the rules of the Gregorian calendar, not typed by hand. US federal holidays come from the rules in federal law (5 U.S.C. 6103): fixed dates such as July 4, and rules such as the fourth Thursday of November.

When a federal holiday falls on a Saturday, federal offices close on the Friday before. When it falls on a Sunday, they close on the Monday after. We show both the holiday and the day it is observed. Each time the site is built, the dates are checked against the list published by the US Office of Personnel Management, and the build stops if a single date disagrees.

Other dates, such as Mother's Day or Halloween, are labelled as observances, not federal holidays. Private employers, schools and states set their own days off, so check with yours.

The files

Downloads are real PDFs with sharp text, sized for US Letter or A4 with a half-inch margin, so they print at 100% scale on a home printer. They are free for personal, classroom and office use.

Spotted a mistake?

Accuracy matters more than anything else here. If a date looks wrong, we want to know.
